Mazda has released the Special Edition Black Tuned Roadster for the Japanese market.

Based on the Roadster RHT (retractable hard top), the BLACK TUNED edition comes in either RS trim (6MT) or VS trim (6AT) and comes with a black roof, black wheels, black grille, black rear roll bar garnish, black leather seats, black door trim, fog lights and Bose stereo.

2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara

After spending a week behind the wheel of Toyota's RAV4 just a few short weeks prior to driving the 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara JLX-L, I was pleasantly surprised at how different the Suzuki actually was from the Toyota, despite my initial thought that I was going to get behind the wheel of the RAV4's twin.
For starters, the Grand Vitara is so much more attractive than the RAV4. Now, this is solely a personal opinion, as I heard many a compliment the week I had the RAV4. Lots of people love Toyota's new styling cues on their latest rendition of the RAV4, and I can see why. However, my fancy was tickled that much more by the Grand Vitara

Maybe that's because it's slightly more “refined” looking, even (dare I say?) feminine. I was trying to find appropriate adjectives to use when I looked at the Vitara and “delicate” and “sharp” came to mind. Maybe I've completely lost it, but I see the Grand Vitara as the girlie CUV of the bunch – at least in its newest reincarnation

Inside, the refinement continues. With a Mazda-esque gauge cluster that's modern and retro all at once, the few brushed chrome inserts throughout the cabin are enough to spice up the look without overdoing it. This is, after all, a utility vehicle and it's meant to do a job. And while I appreciate Suzuki's attempt at being fashionable, I could have done without the '70s-era bathroom-tile inserts on the door handles and shifter housing case. Can we all say “tacky” together?

Simple and functional, the middle stack buttons and knobs are easy to manipulate and traverse as either a driver or a passenger. As I had the top-end Grand Vitara, the JLX-L, my bum sat upon leather-trimmed seats with heaters (which would have been used had our Canadian summer not been in full-swing) all week, and my music was blasted through a 7-speaker entertainment system with a small-ish screen that was, again, simple but functional.

One of the most intriguing parts of the middle stack, for me, was the uber large “PUSH ESP OFF” button to the right of the shifter. It seemed an odd location for the Electronic Stability Program button, and it also seemed a little on the large side – as if the Vitara was screaming at me every time I looked at: “PUSH ESP OFF!! COME ON!! DO IT!!”

And yet, when I did push the ESP OFF button, nothing happened. In order to turn the nanny system off, the button has to be held down for a few seconds, which is usually the case with stability control and traction control systems. But it's not usually the case to see said button so gloriously displayed in the centre stack. Odd.

2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara Dashboard

Now, about driving the Vitara. I was pleasantly surprised by the Suzuki's pep and drivability on the road. Equipped with a 2.4L 4-cylinder, the Vitara pushes out 166 hp and 162 lb.-ft of torque, regardless of trim level. Paired with a 4-speed auto tranny, the Vitara is quite responsive and I was happy passing cars on the highway or cruising around my suburbanite streets. I do wish the fuel economy was a bit better for such a small engine, with my average hitting the near 12 L/100km mark, but otherwise the Suzuki was a pleasure to pilot.

Where the Vitara got a bit sketchy for me was under heavy braking. I'll admit, I did not do a proper brake test, however, I did load up the Vitara with a trunk full of weekend-cottage-getaway food, clothes, blankets, blow-up mattresses, booze, and I loaded the cabin with four large adults. Then I hit the brakes on the highway in sudden traffic.

Despite ventilated disc brakes in the front and back, the Vitara felt like it had no bite at all to come to a halt. It shuddered, it shook, it skipped and it felt genuinely distressed that it had to perform under such laden conditions. And with just a few thousand clicks on the odometer, there was no reason for the brakes to feel the way they did.

Despite that, the Vitara made for the perfect weekend getaway car. With 7.9” of ground clearance, the Suzuki easily climbed the rocky, dirt road into the woods and the 4WD system kept us on track despite the loose ground surface.

With a price tag starting at just $28,135 (for the base JX and $30,635 as tested), the 2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara is a viable contender for someone in the market for a starter family vehicle. For an outdoorsy couple with one child and/or a large dog, this is the ideal compromise to a world full of oversized SUVs and gadget-laden CUVs

2011 Kia Optima Review

All-new for 2011, the Kia Optima is dimensionally similar to the previous generation model. But the 2011 Optima's wheelbase, or the distance between the centers of the front and rear tires, is longer, offering more interior space overall and especially in the rear seat area. Design-wise, the new Kia Optima looks lower and sleeker than its predecessor and prominently sports the "tiger nose" grille characterizing the Kia brand. The new design's downside is that it slightly impacts rear headroom for taller passengers, but get the optional panoramic sunroof and once inside, the cabin feels bigger.

The 2011 Kia Optima is offered in three models, differentiated by their engines and equipment packages. The Optima GDI, or base model, uses a four-cylinder gasoline-direct injection engine (hence the GDI moniker). The 2.0T model uses a turbocharger with its four-cylinder engine. Both models have similar fuel economy, with the base model getting an EPA-estimated 24 mpg city and 34-35 mpg highway while the 2.0T gets an estimated 22 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. The latter, though, generates 74 extra horsepower and 86 greater pound-foot of torque over the base engine, making it the choice for sportier driving. The last model, the Kia Optima Hybrid, goes the other direction as the "fuel sipper" of the three and gets an estimated 36 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. The base model comes with either a six-speed manual transmission or the (more popular) six-speed automatic transmission. Both the turbo and hybrid Optima sedans are equipped with the automatic transmission only.

The base Optima is available in LX and SX trims while the turbo model is offered in EX and SX trims. There are no trim levels for the Optima Hybrid. All Optima sedans come well-equipped. In safety, the Optima comes standard with dual-front advanced airbags; front seat mounted side airbags; full-length side curtain airbags; and a plethora of active and passive safety equipment including power-assisted front-wheel disc brakes; anti-lock brakes (ABS); electronic stability control (ESC); and Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) and a tire-pressure monitoring system. The 2011 Kia Optima is also a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and received a Five Start Crash Safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Optima is covered by Kia's ten-year / 100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty.
All Optima models come with standard chrome-tipped dual exhausts, a feature usually reserved on sportier vehicle trims. Inside, the Optima's dashboard is angled towards the driver to maximize instrument visibility and reach. Standard features include tilt / telescoping steering wheel column, power door locks and windows, and keyless entry. Kia recognizes many Americans consider their vehicle as a second home, especially when stuck in traffic, and as such, the Optima comes standard with AM/FM radio, CD-player, and is MP3 capable, with auxiliary and USB jacks and power outlets. A three-month complimentary subscription from SiriusXM satellite radio is available on all models as well. Finally, the glove compartment is actually cooled to store sodas and fruit for a quick, refreshing cold drink or snack.

Kia offers eight distinct option packages for the Optima. The Technology package offers GPS / navigation, SiriusXM real-time Traffic data, backup camera, and the excellent Infinity audio and speaker system. The Premium package, depending on the Optima model and trim, offers a panoramic sunroof; heated and cooled front row seating (which we found delicious on sunny days); and heated steering wheel. Microsoft-powered UVO hands-free infotainment system is available on certain models and trims as well.

One of the giant holes in Ford’s resume has been its near-insurmountable inability to make a great small car. It has made plenty of popular small cars, and the Focus was a very good car, but greatness has eluded them so far. For 2012, though, Ford has overhauled and redesigned the Focus. Have they finally made a great small car?

The 2012 Ford Focus SE has a 2.0 liter, inline 4-cylinder engine that produces 160 horsepower. It has front-wheel drive, a manual 5-speed transmission, and 16-inch steel wheels. The Focus SE is rated at 28 mpg in the city, but a world-class 38 on the highway.
The high-mileage segment of the market has been dominated by the turn toward “green” hybrid cars, but Ford is demonstrating with the Focus that it is possible to get up to 40 mpg with a conventional engine. With the SE, Ford offers a Super Fuel Economy package that allows the Focus to join the “40 mpg club” on the highway

The Focus SE comes with a tilt-telescope steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat, full power accessories, and a trip computer. The audio system has 4 speakers, AM/FM radio, a CD/MP3 player, and an audio jack.
The Focus has anti-lock brakes, stability and traction controls, side front airbags, and side-curtain airbags. It also has the Ford MyKey system, which allows you to place limits on how fast other drivers, such as teenagers, can drive the car and how high they can turn up the stereo. The Ford Sync system with emergency notification is optional.
Conclusions and driver feedback:
The Focus is definitely a different car this year. The exterior tweaks, such as a rear spoiler and aerodynamic redesign, combine with a reworked suspension to give the Focus a ride that has been described as “European.” The steering is very responsive, and there is almost no body roll. Somehow, it pulls off the European trick of handling like a sport car without the stiff ride. The engine, though it gets great mileage, still has enough punch to accelerate the Focus nicely. On top of this, the Focus manages to ride quietly.
As good as the mechanical tweaks are, the interior improvement may be even better. The cabin is now made of high-quality, soft materials that make you wonder if Mercedes engineers are “moonlighting” in Detroit. The design is very attractive, too. The seating is almost roomy in the front and adequate in the back. While the Focus won’t win awards for cargo space, there is still enough for a small car.

There are a few negatives, but they are more the result of its size than any flaws. The back seat could use a little more legroom, and some find the controls on the optional Ford Sync and MyTouch screen to be a little confusing at first.
Ultimately, though, the positives far outweigh the negatives.
The verdict: this might be the best small car on the market

Ever since 2005, the IRS has been giving a tax credit to individual taxpayers who drive cars which use alternative fuel sources. There was at one time just a clean fuel burning deduction available to green minded taxpayers, but this only applied to gas-electric hybrid vehicles. In 2005, however, this was replaced by the current legislation, the Energy Policy Act.
By the terms of this 2005 law, the tax credit is taken directly from the total amount of tax which the taxpayer would otherwise owe. This reduces or can even eliminate the tax which the individual in question must pay. If you are unsure whether or not your particular “green” vehicle qualifies for this credit, you can ask your car manufacturer or your local dealership.
If you have bought a hybrid vehicle after January 1 2006, then your vehicle (and you, happily!) qualify for this tax credit. This tax credit will also apply to your vehicle if you have begun to use your car after this date.
A hybrid vehicle is, by the definition given in this law a vehicle having drive trains which are powered by a rechargeable battery of some sort in addition to an internal combustion engine. Most hybrid vehicles which are available on the market currently do in fact qualify for this credit.
The credit provided for in the Energy Policy Act applies only to those who have purchased a new vehicle that meets these criteria. If this vehicle is leased rather than purchased outright by a consumer, it is the leasing company instead of the end user may claim this tax credit.
Let’s have a look at how large of a credit you will be eligible to receive for your hybrid vehicle. This information is current as of January 2008:

According to Mitsubishi, the small crossover segment will grow 480 percent in 2013. This means that there are at least half a dozen new pint-size SUVs joining the new Outlander Sport so far. Only this year, Mitsubishi has new competition from both the Kia Sportage and Nissan Juke.
Specifications
Peel the body of the sport and you will see that the Sport is called Outlander Outlander for reasons unrelated to the efficiency of marketing. The Sport shares much of its mechanical composition with the larger Outlander. The two vehicles share the same front portion of his office, along with the structure to the pillars A and B. The wheelbase is the same, and bandwidths are only half an inch away. Honda Civic 2012

The latest images depict a car much closer to the final stages of design, without cabling and wires sticking out at odd places. Instead, it’s a sleek hatchback with fairly generous side cladding to hide the flares and character lines that no doubt run the length of the car. The overall size appears to be slightly wider and longer than the current Civic, meaning interior space should grow accordingly.
The earlier test-mule was wearing the new model’s bumpers and features an elevated hood, either to fit a new engine or test equipment. The wheelbase looks to be the same, although we can clearly see that the rear fenders are slightly wider than on the current car

Not much else is known about the car but there are rumors that a new three-cylinder engine option will join the four-cylinder range. There’s also word that the hybrid system from the recently revealed CR-Z Hybrid will make it into the new Honda Civic.

The Chevrolet Cruze marks a shift in the thinking of General Motors, Chevrolet's parent company. The Chevy Cruze also stands out for its safety features -- 10 airbags are standard.

The Cruze trim levels I tested at a Washington, D.C., rollout were the 2LT, LTZ and an LTZ with the RS appearance package. Each of the test cars came with leather, a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. Cars.com editor Mike Hanley recently drove prototype Cruzes at GM's proving grounds and reported on the high-mileage Eco model and the six-speed manual transmission.

Sixteen-inch steel wheels are standard on the Cruze LS and 1LT, and the 1LT can upgrade to 16-inch alloys. The LTZ has 18-inch silver alloy rims. In the Cruze, roominess is the word. The Cruze has a comfortable ride, a nice compromise between world-car firmness and the softness of some American-market cars.

The Cruze's drivetrains mark a change in how automakers power their cars, for a couple of reasons. Chevrolet predicts the longest zero-to-60 mph time for the turbo engine at 10 seconds in the manual Eco trim level, which is tuned for efficiency.

The Cruze features 10 standard airbags: two frontal and two knee airbags for the front occupants, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for all four outboard seats, and a pair of curtains that cover the side windows.

The newest compact C-car from Chevrolet is the Cruze – a globally engineered vehicle designed not just to compete in the growing small-car segment, but to win.

Most notably is the launch of a new turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, designed to deliver the power and driving experience of a larger powerplant with class leading fuel economy. In fact, Chevy claims an ECO model (with a 6-speed manual transmission) will get 40-mpg on the highway. Added benefits of the Z-link suspension include light weight, low cost and compact dimensions, allowing the Cruze to deliver a cavernous trunk volume of 15 cubic feet.

We were impressed with the car’s road holding capabilities without the larger 18-inch wheels, complete with wider, lower profile tires – standard on top-trim LTZ models.

And the Cruze looks like it drives, with a design that’s handsome and that speaks to the vehicle’s size. Technically a mid-size car rather than a compact, due to its spacious interior, the Cruze looks even more impressive when next to the narrow track, tall-bodied competitors.

Base models come well-equipped with power windows, locks, remote entry and AC. We can’t say the interior is high quality, because this is a compact car after all. Improved as the Cruze may be, it still doesn’t deliver the Civic’s driver-oriented feel, although the Cruze was nicer on the highway with less wind noise. The Corolla’s engine/transmission combo was much smoother, although it’s interior and exterior design is lacking considerably when compared to the Chevy.

Beetle is the unique girly styled compact cars manufactured in the Volkswagen kingdom which is a German based auto manufacturing company. The first generation of Volkswagen Beetle came into picture a decade ago. Considering the amazing sale performance of previous versions of VW Beetle, Volkswagen is soon coming with a spectacular redesign to be recognized as 2012 Volkswagen Beetle.

2011 Saab 9-3 Review

The Saab 9-3 comes in two models: Turbo4 and Aero X. A five-speed automatic is optional on the Turbo4 FWD, while it's specified as standard on the Aero FWD model. A six-speed automatic is standard on both models when they're equipped with Saab's XWD all-wheel-drive system, which is optional on either model. Fuel economy ranges from 21/31 mpg on the front-drive, six-speed models to 17/27 mpg on XWD versions.

No rearview camera is offered, though rear parking sensors are available on Aero models, bundled in a package.

Spyker is now promising a bright future that involves an entirely new car lineup bolstered by an all-new Saab 9-3.

In Aero trim, the SportCombi even handles reasonably well with sharp steering and controlled body motions.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2011 Saab 9-3 is available in three body styles: sedan, convertible and a wagon known as the SportCombi. Front-wheel drive is standard on all, but both sedan models can be equipped with AWD (dubbed XWD).
The base 2.0T sedan comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear foglamp, heated mirrors, automatic wipers, keyless entry, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver seat with lumbar adjustment, leather upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a seven-speaker sound system with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack. The convertible adds 17-inch wheels and a full power soft top. The Comfort package available on all 2.0T trim levels adds headlamp washers, heated front seats, an eight-way power passenger seat and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The 9-3 Aero gains 17-inch wheels on the sedan, while all body styles get adaptive xenon headlamps, front foglamps, two-tone leather upholstery and the 2.0T's optional features. The Premium package adds rear parking sensors, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors and driver memory functions. Front-wheel drive is standard on all but the 9-3X, which is all-wheel drive. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the front-drive 2.0T models, and a no-cost option on the Aero, 9-3X and AWD sedans. A five-speed automatic standard is standard on the front-drive Aero models and optional on the 2.0T models. With the manual and front-wheel drive, the 9-3 sedan and SportCombi return an EPA-estimated 21 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.

Safety
The 2011 Saab 9-3 comes standard with antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, active front head restraints and side airbags. The sedan and SportCombi include side curtain airbags, while the convertible features taller side airbags that cover the head of each front occupant. The convertible was not tested.

Interior Design and Special Features
There's no iPod interface, the navigation system is antiquated, there's no real-time traffic and Bluetooth is packaged with OnStar. The Saab 9-3 does carry more cargo than many cars in its class, offering 15 cubic feet of trunk space in the sedan and 12.4 cubes in the convertible. The wagon offers 29.7 cubic feet of storage space with the backseat up and an impressive 72.3 cubic feet with the rear seat folded flat.

Driving Impressions
With the 210-hp 2.0-liter turbo being the 2011 Saab 9-3's sole engine choice, acceleration is underwhelming for this class of car.
The exterior of the 2011 Saab 9-3 will see the most changes during this minor refresh. The sedan will get a new front fascia with customers being able to choose from “Vector Griffin” and “Griffin Aero”. In terms of engines, Saab will be adding the Turbo4 and TID4 to the current lineup. There will also be a 2.0 DI engine producing either 163 or 220hp and three diesel variants ranging from 130, 160, and 180hp.
Competition for the 9-3 is said to be the Mercedes SLK, the Audi A3 Cabrio, the BMW 5 series Gran Turismo, the Subaru Impreza WRX, and the Cadillac CTS Sportwagon.

The 2010 Toyota Yaris lineup gains some new safety features. This is Toyota’s smallest car. It’s offered as a 2- or 4-door hatchback or 4-door sedan in a single Base trim level. The sole powertrain is a 106-horsepower 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. After your download, run the installer executable. You will be guided through installation of ZBrush 3.5r3. If your system lacks the necessary C++ redistributable from Microsoft, this will install first, then move automatically into the ZBrush installation. This installer automatically sets up necessary permissions for network environments and Windows Vista/7 users. It should be executed by an administrator, who should also activate ZBrush. (See below.) Once installed and activated by an administrator, ZBrush can be run by any user on that computer.

ZBrush 3.5r3 includes the full suite of official Pixologic plugins. These are normally installed automatically. If you choose a Custom installation, ZBrush will allow you to specify which plugins are installed. Even if you didn't choose a Custom installation you can later add or remove plugins at any time. This is done by going to the Add/Remove Programs section of your Windows Control panel. Select ZBrush from the list of installed programs, then click the Modify button found at the top of the list. The installer will ask which plugins you would like to change, then will make the requested modifications to your ZBrush installation.

It is recommended that you temporarily disable any antivirus software prior to installing and activating ZBrush. Such programs can interfere with the proper installation or prevent the license files from being created correctly. After activation, you can and should enable such software again. Also, for Windows Vista or Windows 7 users, please do not activate XP compatibility mode as doing so would interfere with ZBrush's licensing.

The documentation for ZBrush 3.5R3 is now included with the program and automatically installed with any Standard installation. In your ZBrush 3.5 R3 folder you will find the "ZBrush_3.5_new_features.pdf" and "ZBrush_3.5_tutorials.pdf".

Acer Aspire One on Android

Although Acer announced that they will be launching an Android based netbook, the lack of excitements among users is making them took a turn to dual-boot. Still, Acer Aspire One with the infamous Android operating system is out. You can still use Windows XP, but you can boot Google’s Android OS if you are looking for a more comfortable and open source mobile platform especially when it comes to browsing the internet or adding applications to support its functions.

The new version of Aspire One D250 will use Intel Atom N280 at 1.66 GHz as its main brain with the support of 1 GB DDR2 RAM. It is known to be powerful enough even for running Windows Vista with modest visuals. The 10.1” WSVGA is no different than non-Android D250 models, but it is more than enough to display high resolution desktop at razor sharp color depth. You will also enjoy the built in Intel GMA 950 graphics processor; although it is not the best available on the market today, its performance is way above average. Netbooks are designed for office and mediocre computing anyway, so you wouldn’t expect too much graphical or 3D power from its chosen graphics processor. You wouldn’t have to worry about storage though, because the 160 GB SATA hard disk should be more than enough to store your files.

Other than several main components described above, Acer also adds Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g support as well as Bluetooth 2.1 module. Webcam, stereo speakers, three USB 2.0 ports, and of course a 6-cell battery will make this netbook a complete package for mobile computing.

The Android-equipped D250 is available in red, black, blue, and white with its retail price starts at $349.99. People are expecting to see the price being a lot lower, but with Acer choosing to put Windows XP installed as well there is no surprise that the price is not much different than previous models of Aspire One D250.

The launch of this netbook also confirms Acer’s decision not to produce netbooks with Chrome OS. Several Chinese manufacturers will be launching netbooks with Chrome OS later this year, but big manufacturers such as Acer, Lenovo, and even MSI are confirming that they are not yet interested in developing and launching Chrome-based netbooks in the near future.
